Southern Company recognized the game-changing potential of power flow control technology in 2004, and joined the Smart Wire Focus Initiative (SWFI) a consortium of utilities within the National Electric Energy Testing Research and Applications Center (NEETRAC) to develop performance requirements for the PowerLine Guardian®. Southern completed a PowerLine Guardian installation on their 115 kV system in March of 2013.
