Experienced Utilities Executive to Expand Reach of Smart Wires Grid Optimization Technology
OAKLAND, Calif. – Smart Wires, the leader in distributed power flow control for the electric grid, has named longtime utilities executive Bob Suehiro as its vice president, customer support and installation.
Suehiro is tasked with working with utilities to incorporate Smart Wires’ new technology solutions into their electrical grids.
A 37-year veteran of Pacific Gas & Electric Co., Suehiro most recently was that company’s director, electric transmission operations, projects, where he led the company’s Electric Transmission Operations portion of the enterprise cost efficiency and process improvement programs. He also held management positions in gas and electric utility operations, covering business processes, engineering, procurement, contracting, construction, operations and maintenance.
Suehiro possesses multi-disciplinary business leadership experience in gas and electric T&D asset management; workforce strategy; portfolio management; engineering; construction; operations; maintenance; and emergency response. He has led process improvement and organizational development teams on multiple initiatives impacting billion-dollar portfolios.
“Hiring an experienced executive like Bob Suehiro adds both expertise and credibility to our company,” Smart Wires’ CEO Jim Davis said. “Smart Wires will benefit from having another seasoned hand on board – an executive who’s seen it all in nearly four decades in the industry and has contacts throughout the world.”
“It’s almost too good to be true,” Suehiro said. “The Smart Wires technology harnesses the laws of physics by controlling the flow of electrons. I was truly excited and quite surprised by this. I am so honored to be working with breakthrough and leading technology – this is exactly where I want to be.”
Suehiro noted that utilities clearly have varying imperatives, but the Smart Wires technology can be a solution to nearly every problem; improving asset utilization, resolving environmental issues, cost containment, capital investment deferral and, in some cases, elimination, and integrating renewables. Smart Wires-distributed power flow-control technology provides grid optimization for greater efficiency in an increasingly complex and demanding electric utility industry.
A resident of San Francisco, Suehiro completed with honors a B.S. in electrical engineering from California State University – Fresno, is a registered professional electrical engineer and is certified in Lean Six Sigma Process Improvement.
About Smart Wires
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with offices in the United States and in the United Kingdom, Smart Wires is the leader in grid optimization solutions that leverage its patented distributed power flow control technology. Driven by a world-class leadership team with extensive experience delivering innovative solutions, Smart Wires works with utilities globally to address the unique challenges of the rapidly evolving electric system. Smart Wires technology was developed by utilities for utilities, led by a consortium of large US utilities at the National Electric Energy Testing Research and Applications Center (NEETRAC). This core group of utilities, which included Southern Company and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), defined the vision for the original device. Today, the technology is rapidly becoming part of the utility tool kit as more and more electric utilities explore ways to alleviate congestion, improve network utilization, manage changing generation profiles and maintain reliable electric service.
