EirGrid Names Smart Wires an Innovator

Smart Wires’ client, EirGrid, has a webpage about innovation where they share with their customers how they work with innovators like Smart Wires to enhance the power system of the future. EirGrid is involved in a range of exciting projects that are at the interface between their customers and the power system, and Smart Wires is at the top of that project list:

“One of our innovation focus areas is to explore utilizing the existing transmission infrastructure rather than building new lines. In Waterford we have trialed Smart Wire’s Powerline Guardian device to control power flows with real-time sensing capabilities. From this we are moving to deploy distributed series reactance (DSR) type technology for a full deployment by 2018. This will allow us to better utilize the capacity of existing lines which long term will help reduce the need for future new infrastructure.”
