A Rapidly Deployable Mobile Solution
Smart Wires introduces a mobile deployment method for its proven power flow control technology
The ability to temporarily change line reactance for managing outage windows or short-term needs has not been possible – until now.

With a mobile deployment of Smart Wires’ power flow control technology, utilities can facilitate and expand outage windows thus reducing overall project costs and timelines. This tool enables construction and maintenance projects that were previously infeasible due to restrictive outage windows or permitting. The mobile deployment can reduce congestion, generation curtailment and high constraint costs that occur during a necessary system upgrade or maintenance project. It can also be reused on a rolling basis and can be easily redeployed to different locations across a utility’s grid. |

Mobile Applications Spotlight
Smart Wires mobile solution solves short-term and near-term challenges
-
Construction & Maintenance Support: Resolve thermal overloads to expand or enable outage windows.
-
Short-term Congestion: Minimize generation re-dispatch and reduce congestion costs during construction or maintenance projects.
-
Transmission Emergencies: Resolve unexpected overloads (e.g. generation plant closure or large load connection).
-
Bridge Solution: Resolve overloads that occur when the permitting or construction of a permanent long-term solution is delayed.
-
Planning Uncertainty: Manage future generation and load uncertainty and defer large capital investments by mitigating potential overloads.

Connecting Mobile to the Grid
Optimized for quick and easy installation and deployment
Connecting Smart Wires mobile solution is quick and easy. Total construction and commissioning requires roughly two weeks, however the actual outage can be as short as a few hours (based on site conditions). Smart Wires has designed several options for the interconnection process, and collaborates with each utility to determine the most applicable approach.
