European Horizon2020 Project
FLEXITRANSTORE project receives formal approval
A consortium composed of transmission system operators (Greece’s IPTO, Bulgaria’s ESO, Portugal’s REN and TSO Cyprus), distribution system operators (Slovenia’s Elektro Ljubljana, Cyprus’s EAC, and Bulgaria’s CEZ), and four universities – as well as Smart Wires and a number of other solution and service providers – was recently notified that its FLEXITRANSTORE project had received formal approval from the European Commission. The FLEXITRANSTORE project, one of just three winning proposals, will involve deployments of power flow control, energy storage, dynamic line rating (DLR), and active substation control.
Smart Wires’ contribution will specifically focus on demonstrating the ability to increase transfer capacity on the currently constrained Greek-Bulgarian interconnection and relief of 150 kV network congestion resulting from high amounts of renewable generation in southern Greece. Project partners will begin work in September and the project will continue through early 2021.

Enmax and PG&E Lineman Rodeos
Smart Wires participated in two Lineman Rodeos this summer
In July, Smart Wires attended Enmax's rodeo in Calgary and PG&E's rodeo in Livermore. We were honored to spend time with the amazing men and women who are hands-on with the grid each day, constantly improving service for their customers. Kids and adults alike competed to see how quickly they could complete a ground-based installation of Smart Wires PowerLine Guardian.

EPM Visits Smart Wires
Union City, California
In August, EPM, the municipal utility from Medellin, Colombia, visited with Smart Wires at the James Davis Global Research & Development Center. During their time in Northern California, they toured the Center with Smart Wires’ CTO Haroon Inam to gain a deeper understanding of the Smart Wires product family and culture of innovation. Smart Wires facilitated a meeting between EPM and PG&E's energy storage project management team to better inform EPM's goals and protocols for storage deployments on the grid in Medellin. The EPM visitors also toured the PG&E EPIC deployment of Smart Wires PowerLine Guardians in Livermore, CA, and learned about the rapid installation methods developed for this demonstration project.
