Mark Norton

Vice President, European Business Development

Based in Dublin, Ireland, Mark leads Smart Wires’ business development within Europe. Mark has worked in the international electrical utility industry for more than 30 years, most recently with Ireland’s national transmission system operator. Prior to joining Smart Wires, Mark was Manager of Transmission Network Planning at EirGrid, responsible for the planned development of the transmission network across Ireland.

His extensive industry experience includes working on the evaluation, design and planned development of power networks throughout Europe, including chairing the steering group for the European Ten Year Network Development Plan, developing the Irish Grid Development Strategy, the development of three network codes, one as the lead, which are now European Regulation for new demand, generation and HVDC users.

Mark has also developed and used the criteria and process for assessing significant investment decisions for network development projects across Europe.  Mark holds a 1st class Hons Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the now Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge and is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. He is also a technical reviewer for the IEEE Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
