Comparative Performance of Smart Wires SmartValve with EHV Series Capacitor: Implications for Sub-Synchronous Resonance (SSR)                                  

EnerNex used the IEEE Second benchmark Model for SSR to compare the performance of the SmartValve with a conventional passive series capacitor. Simulations showed that active voltage injection from the SmartValve provides reactive compensation at line frequency like series capacitors. However, unlike series capacitors, the SmartValve does not inject voltage at frequencies other than the fundamental frequency, and hence does not create network conditions that could lead to SSR.
