GE Vernova and Smart Wires Sign MoU to Strengthen Grid Performance

June 18, 2025

GE Vernova and Smart Wires have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities to pair their advanced grid technologies. The collaboration brings together GE Vernova’s Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) with SmartValve, a modular Static Synchronous Series Compensator (m-SSSC), to help utilities build smarter, faster, and more stable power systems.

As electricity demand continues to grow and systems face increased stress, utilities are looking for practical solutions that can be delivered faster than building new transmission lines. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to supporting utilities with proven technologies that can strengthen grid performance, reduce congestion, and improve the use of existing infrastructure.

By pairing FACTS and SmartValve technologies, the two companies aim to offer an integrated approach that delivers multiple system-wide benefits, including:

  • Boosting transmission efficiency

  • Reducing sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) risk

  • Enhancing power oscillation dampening

  • Strengthening voltage control and dynamic system stability

  • Improving system fault recovery

  • Adapting to real-time system changes

These capabilities are essential for managing today’s increasingly complex grid conditions. Both companies have demonstrated the value of their technologies in real-world applications. GE Vernova brings deep experience in series compensation and grid dynamics, while Smart Wires has delivered advanced power flow control across the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

Together, GE Vernova and Smart Wires are helping shape a more responsive and resilient grid. One that’s better prepared for the challenges of today and tomorrow.
